Project Touch

Several years ago, Priya Krishnan, the founder of Project Touch, presented her autistic cousin with an iPod Touch because of his love for music. However, pretty quickly, he started using it to learn new words, manage his schedule, communicate, and relax. The impact was incredible. 

Priya consulted with Dr. Tony Gentry, Director of Assistive Technology of Virginia Commonwealth University's Autism Center, Dr. Chandhan Vaidya, Director of Georgetown University's Neuroscience labs, and Ms. Seema Patel, CEO of Interbots, a company that creates assistive robots for autism. They all agreed with her theory that touch devices assist autistic individuals to improve their lives. 

After seeing the positive effect of the iPod Touch on her cousin, Priya realized that there are many families in the U.S. who cannot provide modern technologies to their autistic children because of their low income levels. She wanted to take action and make a difference in their lives. Thus, Project Touch was founded as an initiative through Save A Child Now, and we have raised close to $60,000 for the cause.

In addition, Save A Child Now contacted the Society for the Autistics in India (SAI) in Bangalore, India and identified that they have a dire need for technology to assist the 65 autistic individuals that they care for. We extended a helping hand and shipped iPod Touch units to assist 65 individuals in SAI. SAI was very excited to receive technology to improve communication, learn new words, and develop new skills.
